Isro Chandrayaan 3

ISRO Chandrayaan3 Mission Cherry.. Chandrayan-3 is the third Lunar Exploration Program organized by Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO).

It contains a lander and a rover similar to the Chandrayan-2, but it doesn’t consist of an orbiter. In place of that the propulsion module carrying the lander and rover behaves like a communication relay satellite.

The launch vehicle used for this mission is LVM3 M4, a Medium-lift Launch Vehicle, which has also called by the name ‘Bahubali’ for it’s payload capacity of almost 10 tons upto Lower Earth Orbit (LE0) and 4 tons upto Geostationary Transfer Orbit (GTO).

The Launch mass of this mission is approximately 3.9 tons and payload mass- Propulsion Module:2148 kg and Lander Module:1752 kg including a Rover of 26 kg.

This mission was programmed to land on 23 August 2023 on the moon surface which is 40 days from the launch date (14 July 2023).

There are three main objectives for this mission, which include getting the lander to land safely and softly on the surface of the moon; observing and demonstrating the rovers capabilities on the moon; in-sight scientific experimenting on chemical natural elements on the moon which helps in development of the future mission technologies.

As part of Chandrayan programme ISRO launched Chandrayan 2 in the past which failed in landing the lander in the last minute due to some extra thust eserted by the thrusers of the lander.

There were 4 thrusters at the corners and one thruster at the centre to balance and control the thrust of the other thrusters.

The center thruster is now replaced by Laser Doppler Velocimete r(LDV), these LDV’s are used to measure the velocity of the fluid by sending a monochromatic laser beam and collecting the reflected beam. It is completely based on the principle of Dppler’s Effect.

Not just that many other advanced technology like- Lander Inertial Referencing and Accelerometer Package (LIRAP), Lander Position Detection Camera (LPDC), Lander Hazard Detection and Avoidance Camera (LHDAC), etc. are used to avoide all possible technical malfunctions.

Coming to the rover, it is a six-wheeled design with 26 kilograms of weight (ISRO Chandrayaan3 Mission Cherry), it’s expected lifespan is of one lunar day (14 Earth days).

The Rover is made to study the composition of lunar surface, the presence of water ice in the lunar soil, the history of lunar impacts and the evolution of moons atmosphere.

For performing all these experiments the rover has been included with a drill, LASER Induced Breakdown Spectroscope (LIBS), Alpha Particle X-ray Spectrometer (APXS).
