X Bat Fighter Jet

The X-BAT, created by the defense technology company Shield AI, signals a major change in how air forces operate.

Developed by the U.S. startup, the X-BAT is classed as a large Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) but is specifically built to work as an advanced, combat-ready aircraft that flies alongside crewed planes (a Collaborative Combat Aircraft, or CCA).

AI enabled Software

What makes it truly special is its core: the Hivemind AI-enabled software. This system allows the X-BAT to be a fully AI-piloted fighter jet.

It is capable of making complex fighting decisions, navigating, and completing missions in areas where radio signals and GPS are blocked, making it different from all older drones.

Built to function in dangerous areas, the X-BAT uses its design for huge strategic flexibility.

The aircraft uses a powerful, proven fighter engine, the GE Aerospace F110-GE-129, adapted with a special nozzle to allow Vertical Takeoff and Landing (VTOL).

This means it doesn’t need long, fixed runways. The plane, with an approximate 39-foot wingspan, is built for speed, aiming to fly at supersonic speeds (up to Mach 1.2) and travel over 2,000 nautical miles on a mission with all its weapons.

It is designed to handle multiple roles, including attack, air-to-air combat, electronic jamming, and gathering information, carrying its weapons inside its body for better stealth.

The arrival of the X-BAT means a big shift in how military power is projected around the world.

VTOL Ability..

Its VTOL ability turns any flat space—from a small, remote island to the deck of a cargo ship into an airbase, greatly increasing the reach and safety of military units in war zones.

Because it flies on its own without human pilots, it becomes a lower-cost asset for high-risk missions.

Shield AI expects it to cost much less to buy than traditional crewed jets, letting militaries build a larger fleet quickly and conduct many missions.

This creates a powerful threat that makes it harder for enemies to plan attacks on air bases.

In summary, the X-BAT is more than just a new type of drone; it shows what the future of war looks like.

By bringing together fighter-jet speed, the freedom of runway-free takeoffs, and fast, dependable AI, Shield AI has created a new class of air power.

With its first test flights set for 2026 and initial operational use expected by 2028-2029, the X-BAT is ready to change how air battles are fought, proving that power and long-range capability can be delivered anywhere, without putting people in danger.
